by OPTICON shop

NEDERLANDSE VERSIE ]

To update the firmware of the Opticon OPN-2500, you need the Opticon update application. Opticon has a PC application for this called Appload.

You can download Appload from the Opticon website here: Appload Setup.exe  (external link to Opticon)

Appload also requires the Opticon 'OPN' USB driver to communicate with the scanner.
If this is not yet installed, you can read how to download and install the USB driver here: https://opticon.shop/product-info-and-tips/opticon-usb-drivers-installer-installation/
PLEASE NOTE: You only need to check option 2 that starts with 'OPN/OPR/MDI/...'.

After you are done with these preparations you will need to download the latest firmware as well.
You can download this from the Opticon website here: latest version OPN-2500 Firmware  (external link to Opticon)

Now extract the ZIP file (often found in the downloads folder).
Inside, you will find the '.bin' firmware file. In this example, this is 'OPN2500_FANV0030_FBNV0136_FFN4076L.bin'.
As long as the version is equal to FFN4076L or higher (for example, FFN4076M), this is the correct file.

Ensure that all other applications normally used to read the scanner(s) are closed. Once you have started Appload, you need to select the scanner you want to update.

This is easiest if you have only one scanner connected at a time via the USB cable. Select the correct scanner by selecting the relevant communication port.

To do this, go to 'Settings' > 'Port' > and choose the 'Opticon USB Serial Port COMxx'.

After you have selected this, you need to select the previously mentioned firmware file. You do this by clicking on 'File' > 'Download'.

Locate the correct file and select the .bin file.

The application will start installing the firmware on the scanner.

When the scanner is finished, the message “Download successfully completed” will appear on your PC screen.

The update itself is now essentially complete.
If you wish to check if the update was successful, you can do so by clicking on 'Utilities' > 'Show software versions'.

You will then see the message “Finding ROM, OS”, and the software will display an Info screen containing 3 lines. The bottom line is the installed version on a scanner. In the example below, this is version FFN4076L.

Congratulations, your update is now complete.
