Possible software issues when upgrading from the OPN-2001 to the OPN-2500

After more than a decade of reliable and low-cost scanning performance the OPN-2001 has been discontinued from production. Now all of our OPN-2001 stock has been depleted and to continue scanning operations you could be forced to upgrade from the OPN-2001 (or OPN-2006 loaded with 'OPN-2001 simulation' firmware) to the new and versatile OPN-2500.

Opticon worked effortlessly to create a worthy successor for the OPN-2001 and OPN-2006. Not only they wanted to assure the new model lived up to current standards and expectations, but they also wanted to assure that upgrading efforts to the new OPN-2500 would be limited to a minimum.

# Hardware

The OPN-2500: on the hardware side there is not too much in it to achieve backwards compatability. Simple scan the 'OPN-2001' barcode under the 'Batch mode' header on the Quick Start Guide that comes with the scanner in the box. Your new OPN-2500 will act in exactly the same way as your OPN-2001.

# Software

The software side isn't overcomplicated, however it could be a bit more comlex than the hardware side.
OPN-2500 Firmware:
Make sure you are using the latest available Firmware for your OPN-2500.
The latest firmware ensures smoothest functionality and stability for all OPN-2500 operation modes, including the 'OPN-2001' mode.

Companion Application or your Custom application:
Since the communication between your OPN scanner(s) and PC behind the scenes in handled by the Csp2.dll it is highly likely you should update your Companion Application or the Csp2.dll in your Custom application.

Due to timing issues communication could become unstable or even stall when multiple OPN-2500's  and OPN-2001's are attached to one PC, either being connected directly to multiple USB ports of the PC or be it via a DOKKi multicradle.

In the newly released 'Csp2.dll'  (version 4.0.7.3) the timings have been finetuned to the new OPN-2500's speed. The latest Csp2.dll is already included in the Companion Application installer.
For your Custom application the latest Csp2.dll can best be pulled from the 'Companion Application' installation directory as this App is being updated more frequently than the larger SDK. You can find the download links below.
