OPN-2001 Companion Application - Configure Beeper

by OPTICON shop

How can I prevent accidentally swiching off the beeper sound when scanning a barcode?

The OPN-2001 has many features and options. Most of them need to be set through settings-barcodes or through software commands with the Opticon OPN2001 Companion Application.

Sometimes the Beeper of the OPN-2001 is accidentally switched off. With the default factory settings this is possible by pressing the large scan button for 10 seconds, without actually scanning a code.

Before starting the procedure explained below first make sure to switch back-on the beeper!
Information how to do this using the scan button functions can be found here.

The question is: how to prevent accidentally swiching off the beeper?

For this you will need the Opticon OPN2001 Companion Application. This tool can be downloaded free of charge here. Read the instructions provided on this page and through the installer.

After correct installation of the Opticon USB drivers and the Companion Application connect your OPN-2001 and start the Companion Application.

Step by step guide with images

1) Connect your OPN-2001;
2) Start the Companion Application;
If the scanner is not automatically connected select the correct communication port in the 'Serial port' box from the pull-down and press 'Open'. The Virtual LED shown next to 'Status' show be bright green.

3) Verify connection by pressing the 'Get information' button;
You should see the scanner info in the square 'Scanner' box above the button. The Firmware shows the current firmware version installed on your OPN, the ID is the scanners' serial number (which is also on the label on the back of the scanner).

4) Now press the 'Device Options' button;

5) A new screen will pop-up;

6) Use the scroll-bar on the right to scroll to the bottom;

7) Find the 'Beeper Toggle' option and set from '1 - On' to '0 - Off'

8) Press the 'Apply' button in the lower right corner;
All settings are now sent back to the OPN.

In case you need to configure more than one scanner you can plug in your scanner one by one and click 'Apply' after each scanner you connected, or alternatively (pro-tip) connect all your scanners at once and then press 'Apply to all'

9) Press the 'X' in the right top corner to close this screen;

10) Close the Companion Application.

You successfully configured your scanner, good job!
