OPN-2001 Companion Application - Delete and Reset Options

by OPTICON shop

How can I prevent accidentally deleting data or resetting the scanner?

The OPN-2001 has many features and options. Most of them need to be set through settings-barcodes or through software commands with the Opticon OPN2001 Companion Application.

Sometimes data is accidentally deleted from the OPN-2001. With the default factory settings this is possible by pressing the small scan button for 10 seconds, without actually scanning a code.

The question is: how to configure the Delete and Reset Options?

For this you will need the Opticon OPN2001 Companion Application. This tool can be downloaded free of charge here. Read the instructions provided on this page and through the installer.

After correct installation of the Opticon USB drivers and the Companion Application connect your OPN-2001 and start the Companion Application.

Step by step guide with images

1) Connect your OPN-2001;
2) Start the Companion Application;
If the scanner is not automatically connected select the correct communication port in the 'Serial port' box from the pull-down and press 'Open'. The Virtual LED shown next to 'Status' show be bright green.

3) Verify connection by pressing the 'Get information' button;
You should see the scanner info in the square 'Scanner' box above the button. The Firmware shows the current firmware version installed on your OPN, the ID is the scanners' serial number (which is also on the label on the back of the scanner).

4) Now press the 'Device Options' button;

5) A new screen will pop-up;

6) Use the scroll-bar on the right to scroll to the bottom;

7) Find the 'Delete Enable' option, default set to 7

The options are a combination of three columns, which mean:

Column 1: the ability to delete one scan from the scanners memory by scanning the barcode you want to delete pressing the small square scan button;

Column 2: the abiltiy to delete all scanned data by pressing the small square scan button for 10 seconds (this is quite risky and we feel this should be deactivated in most applications)

Column 3: the ability to reset the scanners' settings to it's factory defaults, including deleting all scanned data

8) Now, select the option that suits your application

9) Press the 'Apply' button in the lower right corner;
All settings are now sent back to the OPN.

In case you need to configure more than one scanner you can plug in your scanner one by one and click 'Apply' after each scanner you connected, or alternatively (pro-tip) connect all your scanners at once and then press 'Apply to all'

10) Press the 'X' in the right top corner to close this screen;

11) Close the Companion Application.

You successfully configured your scanner, good job!
